Life isn't easy . . . especially during a pandemic and when it's freezing outside. However, here are 5 fun things to do right now, in and around Hicksville!
1. Fill out a "Thank You Card" for our local healthcare heroes. Ask your children to add a cute drawing! The Town of Oyster Bay has provided an easy-to-complete form in which you can thank our healthcare heroes for their tireless work during this global pandemic. Submit your letters (and drawings) of appreciation to the Town of Oyster Bay by Friday, March 19, 2021 (either via regular mail to 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, NY 11771, or at one of five drop-off locations) to ensure timely distribution.
2. Go to an ice-skating rink! The Rinx has several locations on Long Island, including right here in Bethpage: 1001 Stewart Avenue. Every day there is at least one public skating session; just call ahead to confirm the time! Some Rinx locations sell tickets in advance online, other locations only sell tickets at the door. If you don't have ice skates don't worry; skates can be rented for use during public skating sessions.
3. Participate in a FREE one-hour Michael's Kids Club class online to make a fun craft! First, pick which class you would like to join and register for that class. Second, check out the required supplies for that class (look under the heading, "What to Bring," below the class description). Third, purchase any supplies you don't already have (Michael's provides links to many of the supplies so they're easy for you to find). Fourth, log onto your Michael's Kids Club Zoom class at the designated date and time, and make a cool craft with your kids!
4. Bundle up and take a walk along one of our nearby beaches! Yes, it's still cold outside, but we all need exercise (especially kids who have to sit still at school all day)! Plus, what is more calming than crashing ocean waves and the sound of seagulls and walking in the sand?
5. Visit the Bronx Zoo VIRTUALLY! Watch lemurs jump from tree to tree, penguins splash around in water, and sharks swimming among schools of fish!
